Winter time model building thread.

Thanks 1967 powerwagon and YY1. The paint is not perfect. The clearcote reacted with the paint and left random spots. I used minimal glue so I can dissasemble it and repaint it someday.

1967powerwagon.. it's actually bronze. Testors Modelmaster lacqour bronze. First I used dupont acrylic clear like always..it ate the paint. Tested again with duplicolor clearcote and same result. Finally tried Testors lacqour clear, which is supposed to be compatible but wasn't. I managed to minimize the problem by sealing the basecoat with future. Then sprayed the lacqour, but not perfect. Might just stick to duplicolor from now on. I know that stuff is indestructible.

Sounds like a damned headache....LOL As for the "Future" what is that stuff? I've read about it, heard it said, but have no damned idea what it is, and where to get it. any ideas/help?

TIA

This is one I've been working on for a while now & finally finished it last night. It's a '71 Charger R/T and I painted it Plum Crazy purple using paint that I ordered through work (I run the Parts Dept. at a dealership) it is the new paint code so it might a little off for a 71' color but it's close. This one is built showroom stock with all the extra details done to add realism.

"Future" is an acrylic floor finish. Now sold by Johnson Wax under the name "Pledge Floor Care", or "Pledge Floor Finish With Future Shine". Seems like Johnson Wax dropped the ball on renaming this stuff, but it is supposedly the same as before. I've never used it, but some model builders swear by this stuff. Can be used as a barrier for hot paints, and can be used as a clear-coat.

...I'll be lookin' for some of that when I'm at the store next! Sounds like something I may be able to put to good use outside of cleaning use! LOL Will give it a try if nothing else...

DF,
NICE work on that '71 Charger, the color looks GREAT too! That whole model is done nicely, (I've got one of my own to build) but I got WAY To many started right now to start another one LOL

Ya I was debating about going with the Hemi in the pruple one, as you said it was the last year for it. I also was researching the production numbers of the real car & came up with info from Chrysler Historical showing only 2 Plum Crazy 71 Charger R/T's are know to exist and neither was a Hemi. I wanted to keep it as authentic as possible to the available production options for the color I chose. If they had built a Hemi Plum Crazy R/T this one would've had the Elephant under the hood. Maybe the next one will be a Hemi car!!

....I bet you'll see a plum crazy purple WITH a Hemi, but I don't think mine will be an R/T.....(I have to figure out where you guys find this **** for what car was built with what motor in whatever year) I love that crap! NICE I'm an addict the wife tells me! (I ain't suffering!)

Here's some updated pics of my Dart Super Stock race team in progress

Bob,
Those the 2 Darts kits you need the parts for?

PM me a full list of "racing" parts you need, I may have even more then just the Dart parts!

There's a third actually & a Plymouth team being built also with the different racing teams (Drag,Dirt,Asphalt & Mud) sharing the 4 planned transporters like above
& this tractor trailer rig

69 340 GTS,
I've got that SAME model from Jo-Han, yours come factory with the 440? Mine has the dual spark plug 426 Hemi in it! I had to ask to see if they were made differently over time!

NICE work! That "Rat Roaster" intake looks AWESOME on that motor!

Thanks!

No, the '440' and 727 came out of a Revell '68/'69 Dart. A lot of that model's parts came out of my stash of parts I've collected the last 50+ years! Like, the headers came from some Chevy kit. Here are more pics: http://photos.toast.net/billgold/1971 cuda

Bill,
What for model kit did that intake come out of? (I'd like to get me hands on one to mold it for making more of them!)

NICE collection of parts I must say!

I went to have a look at the link you provided, and thats the SAME kit I have, complete! I mean really, a complete kit of that same car....NICE!

The work you put into it,. looks GREAT! Mine however, will be a "stock" 'cuda....I just have to locate a hood with either a shaker hood scoop, OR a hood with the pitchfork hood scoops.....Either one for me at this point, that BIG hood scoop Pro-Stock/Street isn't the look I'm after.....

Nice job tho, that looks AWESOME!
