Distributor Oil Leak..."call me crazy"
1st of all guys, I'm not looking for someone to do my troubleshooting for me (I know nobody's suggesting that) but after Mopers post now I'm sure that this is an interesting topic and that's why I posted it. (Moper, it's a MP dist from an electronic ign conversion kit).
Even though I was 100% sure this morning, you guys spooked me so I did the same thing again. Earlier, the right side breather hoses were DC'd but the breather and the PCV were still installed in the valve covers. This time I removed both the breather and the PCV from the valve covers so the engine was run with open holes in both valve covers. I also found at this time that I have good vacuum coming from the PCV hose and the valve is free. Krazy, I know those pics don't show much I just wanted to at-least show that I had some kind of vent system installed since I know everyone thinks I'm nuts by now.
I'm telling you with 100% certainty that oil is dripping from a hole in the bottom of the dist housing. I know about phantom leaks that start elsewhere and migrate to the area in question but this is not the case. With the mirror, flashlight and magnifying glasses I have a PERFECT view of it but no way to photo/video it. I can even see the plate or whatever rotating inside the "dizzy" through the 1/8"-ish hole. A shot of brakekleen, blast of air will clean the area nicely. With gauntlet gloves I'm able to hold the mirror and light and watch carefully as oil drips from the hole with everything around it clean. In-fact, the mirror is positioned directly below the hole, but above the top of the block, and the oil is dripping right onto the mirror glass !
after another cool-down I'm gonna pull the dist and see what I can find.
One question though, is there still any possibility of a pressure problem even with the breather/PVC removed? I did have that VC leak too but it's in a spot that a lot of guys seem to have trouble with, and there have been no other oil leaks.
I swear, the strangest things happen to me..
