1966 Dodge Dart
Heres my monthly update. Hope i can get more work done and do a weekly update. I will start with the K Frame since thats a big part for me to get at. I cut the section out that was hitting the pan following many members experience that I read about on this site. I decided to add gussets then box in the remaining open areas. I ran into problems when the head of my mig welder wouldnt fit down into the space to weld the gussets in so I had to send the k frame out to be welded. Luckily the neighbors brother inlaw is a welder and he welded them for free! Once i got it back I started boxing in the openings that I had cut but first I cut an extra 1/2" off the top of the k frame to add a little extra clearance to remove the oil pan if ever needed. This made the front section to weld be at a slant as you will see in the pics. Then I continued to box the rest in. I am very happy with the way it turned out. I fitted it to the motor on the stand tonight and it will have about 3/8" clearance on each side. Should be good to go. I also painted the engine using the POR15 Hemi Orange. I like it much better then the spray can color as it seems to have some gloss and deep color to it.
