I have a 1406 electric choke and and a ton of others here do also, and most of us have that stupid "heat soak" BS issue.
Also have the thick insulator, but didn't block the crossovers. (yet)
One thing I used to think was that the Eddie carb ran rich, missed and took a few minutes to clear up after a hot restart. (hot being anywhere over about 160)
After installing an A/F guage I found that when they do this it's because the A/F mix was about 2 full points lean.
My car normally runs and A/F mix of about 14.5 at idle which is a little lean, but after a hot start when it's running crappy the A/F ratio is in the 16 range for about a minute of running and then returns to the normal 14.5 or so and runs great again.
I guess the smell from the unburned fuel from the lean miss tricked me into thinking it was going rich when it did it.
If I was more concerned about speed I'd dump it for a Holley or similar, but the Edelbrock is so dang stable about adjustments I am going to live with it, but will block the crossovers next time the intake comes off.
I don't know how much good it'll do if the heatsoak causes problems as low as 160 though.
I'm going to talk to Edelbrock about it and see if there is some reasonable excuse that these carbs do this. (as you can tell I'm not expecting to find out anything real usefull)
