street racing stories..you know ya do it..
I owned a 1968 428 Hemi 4 speed/dana Roadrunner. I bought it new in 1968. It was factory rated at 425HP. (Chortle)
The drummer in the band purchased a new 1969 427 Chevy, Dual quads 4 speed/12bolt Chevelle. It was also factory rated at 425 HP. (Chortle, also)
Out of the box, the 427 Chevies were stiff competition for us. With both cars, In stock form, it was not a cake walk for either of us. One wrong move and the other guy wins.
These cars were almost identical when it came to pwer, performance and and straight line speed.
There was no "Sure Thing".
We raced nearly every weekend for about 6 months, and to this day, I don't know who one more street races.I did beat him 4 out of 6 times at the drag strip, though.
The cars in stock configuration were SO close, but his cost nearly $1400.00 more than mine. Both cars were under $5000.00 new, though. ;)
