451 stroker rear gears question

We were discussing thia very subject last Tuesday with my tranny builder. There are compromises with a street/strip converter so you can live with it on the street. Having a high stall converter is cool for a while but unless you like hearing the motor scream it gets ol rather quickly. My converter is 2400 rpm and we decided against a 2800 because it will slip on the highway until about 62 mph with 4.10 gears and 28" tire. If you have a quality converter you can have it adjusted. As 5sec dart says, a 3.23 gear will make it worse because it will never get to it's lockup. Loose converters make heat, heat kills trannys. Hope this helps, "Waltzin' Matilda"
