what off the shelf engine oil ?
I actually took the time to call Valvoline motor oil and talked to a tech guy a few years ago. He said if your car is well broke in (for example: 60,000 miles), he said regular motor oil of your choice will be sufficient. He also said for heavier valve springs and higher lift/duration cams, or newly rebuilt motors, VR1 will more than offer the protection needed. He said VR1 will so much protect the cam, that you can break a new cam in off of it. That being said, I took his advice on my stock LA 318 and have been running QS Defy (that I use in all my vehicles) for a few years now, and absolutely no problems. The Defy is suppose to have a little extra zinc in it anyways, and it has a small amount of synthetic blend. Every Walmart carries it and it's only 16 bucks for 5 qrts in a jug. All my other cars are roller cams.... the easiest way not to worry.... :)
