727 shaft endplay

The factory service manual calls for an enormously wide range but for a performance application you want it as close to .020" as you can get it but even with the thickest #1 thrust washer a lot of the time it could be in the .030" range. If it's much more than that something's wrong.

When you checked it did you have the tailshaft securely pushed all the way forward? If it was pushed back you'll be reading the play in it also.

I stood the trans on the tail shaft and with the weight of the trans pushing the input shaft forward I put my dial indicator on it and zero'd it a few times until it came back to zero every time so when it's down on the output shaft its at zero when I lift the trans it showed .090 with a .061 washer so I put a thicker .084 washer in and came out with .067 I also have a thicker washer its around .100 if I use that one I will have .051 what do you think , so am I doing this rite.

Can you use 2 washer's or is that not recommended
