Stop in for a cup of coffee
Whats up Frankie? Are you quitting? LOL I want to do the same thing. I wish I could sell most of it off and even sell the house. Just too much work as I get older.
My 1971 Swinger ( described in my sig) is done. Has been for a few years, and now it's at the "maintain point". I moved the car down to Florida we have a condo. I did that for a couple of reasons, one was so that I'd have more nice weather in which to drive it, and another was so I'd have a second vehicle there.
All the 1972 stuff is left over from another build that I did about 12 years ago, and I doubt I will be doing another. Even though I'm retired no, the last thing I want to do is spend my retirement years in my garage, busting knuckles. There's too much of the planet I want to see before I kick.
over the last 50 years or so, I've owned probably 50 or so cars, built about a dozen of them. I'm 65 year s old now, and not a limber as I was, crawling under a car, or even under a dash isn't as easy as it used to be. There's another thing, too. I'm starting to lean more toward trucks, now.
There isn't a car made today that I want to buy and own. I'm a fairly tall guy, and weigh about 215 lbs. But, I've had my knees operated on, and getting in and out of cars is becoming more of a discomfort, every day. The Dart isn't so bad, but my trucks are so much easier for me. For a while I was considering building a stock 1970 or 1971 Swinger, When I say stock, I mean bone stock. A real restoration. I've been looking at, and considering cars for that project for about 2 years, and I've come to the realization that the people who own these cars, and put them up for sale, must be completely blind brand loyalists, or just plain idiots, think their car is made of platinum, and is the only one in existence. Between that, and the fact that it's getting more and more uncomfortable for me to get out of them, I've decided go another route.
I'm keeping my 71 Swinger ( I've had it for ever, anyway), and besides the occasional tune up, grease job and oil change, it really doesn't need anything, any more, but I'm probably going to be looking at a truck or SUV project.
The things that catch my eye are the 1960's Dodge Town and Countries, and early 1950's suburbans, and dodge panel trucks. I'm also looking at Dodge, Ford and GM pickups 1976 and earlier. IF ( and that's a big "IF") I decide to do another project, It's not going to be another basket case. It's going to be a viable daily driver. Something where the body and chassis have already been completed, and what's left is the mechanicals, and, perhaps paint. I suck at body work, and to get it where it looks good, has always been a challenge for me. While I've received compliments on the work I've done, it always required extra effort. Far more than I'm will to do.
I like the early/mid 1970's Dodge Power Wagons. Big block, 4 WD, long bed trucks. I also like the pre-1993 Dodge Cummins trucks. While I own two Diesel Rams, I really like the pre-1993 bofy style better.
Also considering an El Camino, or a Ranchero, If I do either, the Chevy would have to be while they were still built on the full size Impala chassis (
1959 or 1960) , and the Ranchero would need to by a
1957, 58, or 59.
In any case, I'm still undecided, and feel no urgency about making up my mind, and I realize that if I do this, it will probably be my last project, too. On the other hand, I won't have any regrets if I don't do another project.
So, to answer your question, no, I'm really not quitting, I'm just getting to the point where it's not as much fun as it used to be, and the realization that I need a vehicle that's has more leg room and a higher seat than a Dart.
I'll still be around to piss off RustyRatRod, and a few other guys, though. ;)
