"POWER NATION" slant six build

Bill Dedman,
I just noticed you are running one of those Aussie intakes. Did you try your setup with any other intakes? If so, what were the differences? Just curious. Also, did you settle on the Demon 650BT carb?
That is an awesome looking setup!

Andy,
When I bought that Aussie intake manifold (2005), the long runner version was the only one available. They have since come out with a much-shorter runner version. I sent pictures of all my parts to a guy I know who makes his living as a forced induction consultant to auto manufacturers; he's not just a hobbyist like I am; he actually KNOWS how this stuff works, BIG TIME, and he commented that this long runner manifold was the worst possible configuration for what am trying to do; he said I'd add ten pounds of boost and would not go ANY faster, as long as I had that manifold on there.

He said it was an excellent design for a naturally-aspirated system, but was the worst possible for my application.

That was HIS opinion, and when he talks, I listen, because he makes a lot of money from car makers, by issuing such edicts... a lot!

But, I paid $400.00 for that thing, and can't really afford to replace it with their short runner version, so I tried fitting an Offenhauser and a Clifford 4bbl manifold, both unsuccessfully, because they both interfered with my header in a very disappointing way, so I will just run it like it is and save my pennies for the short runner version, down the road...

In the meantime, I have not had a chance to take this car to the strip, but have done some test runs on private roads with ten pounds of boost and the tests on dry asphalt were indicative of maybe 250 horsepower.. it spun the 9"-wide Hoosier 26" tall slicks all the way through first gear, and spun them hard. That's with CalTracs, a 3.55 limited slip, 8.75" rear, the battery in the trunk, a lightweight fiberglass hood and NO front bumper...

On a different tack, Ryan Peterson's 500HP+ motor,of which I tried hard to build a close copy, uses a HyperPak intake, which is a long runner manifold, with a 650 Holley, and it goes 127mph in the quarter, (mid tens,) in a 2,800-pound (without driver) '66 Valiant two-door hardtop, with a 727 transmission...

So, who knows???

My carb is an off-the-shelf Holley, 650 double-pumper with Hangar 18 mods.

I will have the chance to run it on a set of 1/8-mile/1,000-foot clocks very soon, I think. The weather is warming up, and I have a trailer, now, so there's no reason why I can't FINALLY, get some time slips on this thing. I (with my ex-partner, Freddie Nielsen, who actually did most of the work on the car,) have FIVE YEARS invested in this project, so, I am understandably anxious to see what we have wrought! LOL!

Pray for me... :prayer::prayer::prayer:

And, thanks a lot for the kind words!!!
