How hard can a 273,run? (street/strip)?
My best was a "64" 273. TRW +.040 10.5:1 forged pistons, Bored and honed with torque plates, file to fit Speed Pro rings, "72" 340 J heads with 1.88 intake valves milled .040 block side .038 intake side chambers cc'd all equal within .2 cc sharp edges smoothed in the bowl and ports gasket matched, "71" 340 intake and TQ, used "72" 340 cam, Mopar Performance electronic ignition, 8 3/4 Suregrip 4.10 gears, 340 flywheel and a 440 10.95 B&B Chrysler pressure plate and clutch. Factory exhaust manifolds with duals and turbo mufflers. Never ran a timed 1/4 mile but it was real fast and quick. It would burn the tires all the way through first, halfway through second, a little into third. I used to run it up to 140 mph once a month when it was my daily driver. With 2.76 gears, for trips, it would get mid to high 20's mpg and would shift into 4th gear at 100 mph. Pulled the 273 because gas wasn't good enough, swapped in a built 170 /6, still have that 273.
