I hate to even ask........

The lifters on these engines are notoriously noisy, especially with a rowdy cam, mine do it too. I'd replace them, mine need it sooner or later. I added a quart of 20w-50 on top of my 10w30 and it quieted right down.

You could try a quart of ATF to clean everything out, see if that helps.
