How hard can a 273,run? (street/strip)?

My dad had a 66 Formula S with the 273 and a 4 speed. Swears nothing could touch him in "friendly" quarter mile runs except his brothers GTX. Had quite a few stories about blowing the doors off supposedly faster cars
