best intake?

LOL..... Every component matters and needs to match. If it is completely stock long block, that cast intake will be hard to beat! I once did a test on a 360. It was a pretty baseline motor save 9 to 1 pistons, and a mild MP cam with headers. I removed the cast intake and TQ for a LD340 and 750 dp. I gained exactly .15 in the 1/4. I brought with me a 625 carter AFB. I bolted that on and lost a tenth. I take it the 750 dp was running a little richer and thus the reason it outperformed the TQ and carter.

FWIW, carb tune is VERY important and it will vary between engines as well as individual intakes. Similar to the above comparison, I did try to optimize a 4779 750 DP and a 3310 750 vacuum on my race car. The DP was about .10 faster. I don't recall the mph, but I'm sure that was a bit faster as well. A 4777 650 DP ET was about the same as the 3310 750 vacuum. A DP can be made to leave harder than a vacuum carb in most cases.
