The wife finally just got the car she has always wanted. Well let’s back up a sec and establish how we have got to this point. When the wife and I met in the 1990’s she just bought herself the car that she was told to like by her parents Honda Civic. So she went out bough a brand new civic. We started dating shortly after this and six months later she was hit by a red light runner and the car was a total loss. She had full coverage and got a check for a new pile of jap civic. Before she bought a new car I told her to call her insurance and ask what it would be to insure a new car. When she got off the phone she was in tears and could not afford to insure a new car. The wheels started turning in my head and I told her “Why don’t you buy an older car, IE; Dodge dart, drive it for a few years then when everything clears up we will get you a new car again” The very next day we went out and got her a 1967 /6 dodge dart. She loved it, drove for almost ten years without a single problem. Then one night while at work her car got stolen and she was devastated. Since we live in San Diego next to the Mexican border we knew we would never see it again. So we went out and got her that new car that we talked about ten years or so before a 2005 Hyundai elantra brand new right off the lot. She looked happy but I knew that she was missing her dart. So after another ten years or so that jap piece of crap is starting to slowly fall apart. All along I have always kept my eye out for another one. But she had hinted to me many times that she always wished her old dart was a 4 door. I asked why, she said first off you don’t see many of them and plus now that we have kids that would be easier for them to get in and out. Also, these are her words “No motherfucker will want to steal a 4 door.”

So that brings us to the present day and if you’re still reading you might like this thread. I found on Craigslist a 1967 4 door /6 dart. On Sunday 3/22/15 I went to go look at this car. So now it time for the good the bad and the ugly of this car. Let’s start with the good, it has been converted to disk brakes, the interior is in great shape, the A/C still works, all body lines are mint, one owner car, wiring is untouched, all bumpers and trim “it’s a 270” is in perfect shape, and it’s a 225 slant six just what she wanted. Now we move on to the bad, car has not started in since 2006, and the registration has also been out since then. Now it’s time for the ugly, it has some rust just under the rear left window going into the trunk, and just some rust spots here and there, this is something I have never dealt with in California on any car before.

On Tuesday 3/24/15 I went to the guys house with cash to buy this car but told him that I was going to eye **** it a little more and see what I see. I asked why did he park it and he said it just stopped running one day. I looked at the points and they were fused together, a little giggle with a screw driver pop they opened up and I sent them with and old piece of thin cardboard. Put in a battery and 35 revs later Vaaarrrroooommm. That never gets old, a new car would NEVER start with 9+ year old gas but, a /6 will. But now we get to the whole point of the story and the why I am here. While it was running and warming up I could hear a little knock, and with one little rev the tell tale sign of a rod knock. The guy who was selling it was asking $2,300.00. He looked me dead in the eye and said “Well I guess the price just dropped” I took out my wad without saying a word I peeled off $675.00 put it down on the work bench. He did not say a word either just picked it up without counting it and placed the pink slip in its place. I loaded up the car and left.

When I got home I told the wife to come outside she walked outside and could not believe her eyes, she asked,”Is this for me” “Yes” I said. So now while I make this thing ready for her and kids safe I will be posting every step along the way with pics. This will be my first /6 build. I have built MANY race small blocks and have a 1966 dart that runs 10.06 at 132mph with a slight detune so I don’t go into the nines. But this is something that I have always wanted to do. Hope you enjoy it.

Ps I drove the 1967 dart onto the trailer and then when I got home I took her for a drive around the block. Got to love a slanty.

I agree, great story and sounds like you got a really good deal. Do you mind posting some pictures?

You will be happy to know that slant engines w/ tranny are almost free today, since so many pull them out for a V-8 swap. Same for power steering parts.

I can relate. My 1969 Dart that I had for 20 yrs since college was stolen in 1994 in front of my house in Atlanta. I had just installed a rebuilt slant engine and tranny and it ran perfect. People suggested it went to the nearby housing projects, but I knew Mopar thieves are usually rednecks. The only thing recovered was the license plate 7 yrs later on a Jetta in Cobb County (redneck central at that time). Losers will steal a 4 dr since I think the fenders are the same and I hear also work on B-bodies, which is why some say they grabbed my car.

Great story, Gotta love the wife, mine drives a '74 four door newport and would kill if anything happened to it.

all my life had mopars , wife say not fair she didn't have one
so went out bought 4 door valiant, I wouldn't one any low life 2 take it specaily if wife is in in

That's nice to hear she got a car she wanted. I can't imagine the sting of having a car stolen. I never had the pleasure of driving my /6 as a rod was sticking out of the block and knocked the starter off the trans. Nothing wrong with a more door car.

all my life had mopars.
wife tells me isn't fair she didn't have a mopar.
so went out and bought her 4 door valiant.
she loves it,if some low life steels it I wouldn't want 2 b them.

Funny. I have driven Mopars my whole life. So has my wife of 38 years. She says no more Mopars, for her. She wants to try something else.
