You're not likely to get an answer from the OP, this post is almost 6 years old and the OP hasn't been on the site in about 5 years. Bringing this one back from the dead!
There are plenty of folks, including myself, running wide front rims and tires on their cars. Scrub isn't an issue. The large backspace numbers are somewhat misleading, most of that is due to the increase in rim width.
I have 18x9's on my Duster with 275/35/18's. They have 6.4" of backspacing, the offset is only 35mm though. And some of that is taken up because of the track width I added with aftermarket brakes and a 3mm spacer.
