Stop in for a cup of coffee

We went cruising last night to see some old hot spots, but the first one was slow with only bouut 15 cars, then the one in Indiana was closed by 11:15PM and was supposed to be open till midnight....

Both places used to be rated in the top 10 cruising spots in the country back in the 80's, but pretty dead now. someone at the Steak & Shake said that they were cruising that old spot again, but it's nothing like it used to be.

Back in the 80's they would pack about 1,000 people on the corner of the block... The parking lot was packed, if you tried to park a modern or non-muscle car in the parking lot, you were told to get that piece of **** out of there to make room for one "worthy".

The drive in even bought out the gas station next door and made it into a larger parking lot for them.

People would gather there early in the night, then after 10 PM when they closed, the street races would start. They would set up the races at Dukes, then send spotters to one of the many "tracks" that we had to check for cops, then radio back if it was clear.

People would gather at the "track" and run the races. Then see if anyone else wanted to run, and then leave. They used to run the big races after midnight and the cars would be towed on a trailer to the designated "spot". Then unload the cars, warm them up, run the race, load the cars back up and get the f*ck out of there before the cops showed up. Most of those cars ran 10 seconds or less and they ran for $2000 per race minimum.

But the youngest son is graduating on Monday if it doesn't rain (Thur is rain date). His mom, her parents, and her husband are coming in tomorrow and leaving on Tue.

There is an all day cruise at Toyota park that the boys are talking about, but the oldest one was up all night and I think he may not make it... Supposed to be huge over 3000 cars and vendors expected...

Then a show and swap in Glendale tomorrow, if I can sneak away before everybody comes in.

[I'll bet the kid's mom will be late... She always is. Her ETA is supposed to be around 10 AM to Noon, but I bet she won't show up until late afternoon if that early... Her parents are supposed to be in around 3 - 5 PM...]

Sounds like a cool town back in the day :color: You enjoy  sounds like you have a great time planed .. I hope Creed did not stay up to late last night #-o I could use his help today ... Creed brings his stuff (Truck and old car 38 Ols) to my place and parks it, it's time to clean up around here !!
