Why? What real purpose does that light bar serve?

Those light bars are not DOT legal. Based on the appearance of your car I don't think you're offroading with it, which means you can't legally use that light unless it's in a parking lot. Enforcement may be a different story where you're at, but if "they" want to, "they" can cite you for running that light bar. Likely just a fix it ticket, but still a pain.

So, back to my original question, what's the point? There are legal, and effective, ways to improve your lighting. That's not one of them.
