$7000 paint job

Every time I give my advice, a fight starts out, so if you want to know what I think, google it.

Good luck with the project.

This what google gave me: Jerry Springer/ Dart Den - Poison Dart Forum - Page 1

lol, sorry had to

share your info

yes, it seems every bodyman has his own view of the correct way to do it.

I have had a couple painters suggest, ( IF ( HA!) I;m price conscious) to perhaps use good,,, but not the highest costs primers, but use as good a top coat as I can afford.

maybe another key to t he amateur painter, is having the correct tip for what your shooting, ...... i'm sure the pros still have a primer gun and a topcoat gun too.

wheni I started this little discussion, I hoped it would give people a chance to look into ways to get a paint job ( whatever the Nth degree they want) with out getting caught in the insurance shop "jail"., maybe hear of some people that have learned to do good body work and and have pride in the results, maybe give some inspiration to at least get a gun and apply something like equipment enamel .... instead of Walmart spray bombs ( no offense given, O K, talking durability here at least),, swap some info around.

bodywork? painting ... your car is no small undertaking,,, take lots of work, skill, knowhow, equipment...... but it can be learned and done with a wide variance of results!!!! i'm sure not trying to step on any toes.....
but its not on everyone 's plate that owns an old mopar or two, to mortgage the house for a paint job??

No disrespect intended to the man that spent $10,000 just on materials (HOW????).

My experience has been the cheaper stuff always needs more product to do what you wanted...lol. Just don't ever mix brands and make sure you get the mixing sheets with whatever you buy. It helps a year later when you can't remember...lol .

one thing I have found here since I started back with paint work since my 20 years away from it. I the HVLP gravity flow gun, seems like materials go SO much further!!!! plus there is never that paint in bottom that ya never get out with the siphon gun...

I take a paint pencil and write mix formular on top of can. seems I get paint everywhere on the sides! LOL you can go to computer and find that info but......

lol , not really a clean way to do it, I throw a sheet of of masking paper down on my bench and mix on that for easy clean up.

X2 been my experience as well, less actual pigment and more binder in lower level paints.

My observations:

1) cost prohibitive paint jobs will keep the newbies out of the bodyshop for paint.
2) cost prohibitive paint jobs will keep most everyone out of the bodyshop for paint.
3) people without the means to pay for a 7K paintjob are resourcefull; they will paint it themselves, learn and enjoy the process, and have a pretty darn nice car.
4) Most cars out there are not worthy of a 7K paint job. For example; if I had a real hemi, 4 spd. cuda, its would be worth the money to paint right....not a back yard paintjob.
5) some are really not worth; my 65 Barracuda??????? $8 for a qt. of Penetrol to seal what is there. good enough..... lol

thats what I been trying to say in my excuse for "broken southern slang " for the English language!!! LOL your car has what folks are calling " patina"!???? LOL

NO. 3 1/2 should read... some people can afford the $7000 job.. its their money, their car, their hobby..... makes no difference if they have no desire to do any work on their car, or any of the body/paint work in particular...

I'm bringing this thread back.

I'm one of those guys who just doesn't have the money to get his car painted "right." TBH it's really close and very soon I'm getting a little bit of work I'm unable to do myself, don't have welder and etc, done.

I never planned on doing this but I'm going to paint the car myself. I fully plan on this paint job to be an in-between paint. I can learn a little bit more and be proud that I painted the car myself and actually won't fear to drive and park it everywhere.

I will paint soon as I'm tired of it being torn down close to ready for paint at my parents house and they are tired of it too. If it was painted would be completely different in Moms eyes even if a 30ft paint job.

Wish me luck as shortly after I finally get the car to this guy I know, does amazing work I wish I could get to paint the car, I will be spraying the car with paint. Probably sometime in mid July to early August.
