Stop in for a cup of coffee

Unfortunately, yes I am ,Karl.. Day off, bad T.V..., Actually, you stated you own a winged B body?.. If so, tell me more ...

What are you asking? What is the story of our Superbird?

My dad always loved the "wing things" as he called them... He used to tell me and my brother how they dominated in NASCAR... :D

When we lived in Omaha for a couple of years, we used to pass a house on the way to the health club that had an orange one parked outside and we always admired it. Then one day it disappeared... :glasses7:

Then when we moved back to Chicago, we started our collecting with a 71 Challenger convert 340 car. And shortly after that, we found an ad for a Superbird for sale locally and checked it out. It was in really good shape as it had just over 20 K on it at the time.

It turns out that he was the original owner and needed some money and decided to sell the car. It was a "lot lizzard" that sat in the dealer past the 70 model year, and the original owner had bought it during the 71 "model year"... #-o

He drove it until 74 or 75 when the gas crisis hit, and then parked it until 79, when he plated it again and drove it to see the Indy 500. He then drove it once in a while for a couple of years until we bought it in the summer of 81. :color:

It's an original unrestored car, but the original owner owned a Maaco paint shop and they painted it there. Those idiots had drips in the engine compartment, and even painted over the windshield washer reservoir.... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

So we had it repainted by a more competent shop and it's been like that since. :violent1:

It was dad's favorite car. Whenever someone asked if it was for sale, dad would tell them that it's in his will and is not interested in selling it. So after dad died, my brother gave me the choice of which of his Road Runners that I wanted. It was a tough choice, as dad's other toy was a 69 Road Runner convertible that was originally a 383 4-speed car with 3.54 Dana, when we got it someone had put a 67 440 in it. We eventually wore out the 440 and dad had a 426 Hemi sitting in the basement, so we decided to put two and two together and installed the Hemi (but kept the 383 emblems on the hood ---> LOL!!!) :D

My oldest son told me to get the Superbird, as it's an original low mileage car, sitting in the garage with 21,748 original miles on the speedo. The last time it was out, was for the Daytona/Superbird meet back in 88 at Talledega, we got to do a parade lap with the club before the race. :prayer:

My brother runs into the original owner periodically with his work, and he regrets selling the car and always asks if he can buy it back....

So, I had to pass up on a 69 Hemi Road Runner convertible with a 4 speed and Dana to get the Superbird... :violent1:

I have driven the Superbird up to 130 MPH once, and my brother got it to 150 MPH at the first Mopar Nats at the Chrysler Chelsea proving grounds. Even at 150, there is plenty of pedal left before the floor gets in the way...

Here are a few pictures of it:
