There is no such animal as a freeze plug that blows out when over heated. He probably put over heating discs on the freeze plugs. Pretty common practice. A freeze plug that would blow out when over heated would be the most mega retarded thing in the world. That would just empty the coolant and further contribute to a total meltddown.
