I got the new torque converter on. Thanks guys. Just kept spinning it and pushing and it worked. The seal looks good. Dry and no cracks on it. I went with a Hughes 27-25 converter (2500 stall).
Looks good to the eye means nothing. I would never put a new converter in without installing a new seal. Heat and time dry them out and their a time bomb waiting to blow. Learned that the hard way when I was 17
Incidentally, you know the converter is all the way in if the flexplate lugs are about 1/2" below the surface of the bellhousing.
