318 poly engines , are they any good ? i bought a 64 an 63 polara without no engines , im very familiar with th la an magnum engines , but i dont know nothing about the big 318s , usually racers say that older the block is ... stronger the material was , are they worth it ? the engine is in good condition for sale with a 727 attached to it , but was thing to go with a classic more popular 440 for the polara , or even a small block , let me know what you guys think !

btw: are they as powerfull as the wedge engines once modified ?

I had one in a 1966 Dodge 200 Camper special. This engine was made from 1957-1966.
It is a deep skirt block, heavy casting.
Great engine. Some of the LA 318 parts will work on this engine.
Some camshaft grinders still have cams for this engine. Racer Brown, Isky, and Crane.
There is a 4 bbl manifold available.

Ive owned a couple in trucks. They seem to run OK. I don't know much about modifications as parts for them are limited. Not worth the effort in my opinion. two cents

Poly 318

Polyspherical head chamber also known as the "Semi Hemi"
Other than a little harder to get some specific parts for they have a reputation of being tough, reliable and capable of making some serious power.

Great engines, a little more costly to build but no hot spot in the heads with even spaced ports and good flow. I have not seen one fit into an A body though it could be possible perhaps with manifolds swapped and a turbo up front..... Steering column clearance is the issue.

My dad's '66 charger has a poly, parts can be a bit of a bother to find, but it's a perfectly good motor. I keep trying to convince him to go to a 4 BBL setup, but he's sticking with factory.

I swear to God no one reads this forum, there have been two lengthy threads
on the poly in the last couple months, the most recent in the smallblock forum just
days ago. The other a member was asking opinions on going poly vs BB in his ride.
It is not a "big" 318,it is a smallblock, albeit a heavy one.It is not an inexpensive
engine to build, but the parts are there to do it,and they are very powerful engines.

Chrysler power magazine has promoted the poly and made new speed parts for it.

Yeah,I did ,the first time.And that's the point.We're referencing 2-3 day old
threads to people who don't bother to search at all before starting basically identical
duplicate threads. Really, .........
