When the car is hoisted it is possible to pull the ring and pinion out without removing the gas tank right? It looks like it would be really tight......

If the jack point is under the body,so that the diff hangs suspended then yes it should come out. If not, a little prying should work. At worst, removing a rear shock or both will get it done.

Thanks, I think I will just pull the whole rear end out and clean it up, go through the brakes, replace seals... I just know I have to go with a higher ratio numerically, it's geared way to high for my tastes. I'm not sure of the ratio now, but I would say it's in the 3:20's something... I havent checked, but I want to go for 3:90's or may even opt for 4:11's, it's just a cruiser, and not for any long hauls.

You can easily upgrade to rear disc brakes with the 8.25 rear. Just pull the setup for a jeep grand Cherokee.
