what 4 speed auto transmissions can i use? 46rh etc

^Two words: overall cost.

Thanks for clearing that up. I really want the easier option of the a500 but I am not sure if it will handle the 550 to 600hp
I have phoned several transmission shops and some say no problem and others say no way.
I have also asked some guys using the 904s but same answer. Yes and no.
Anyone running a stock a500 behind bigger hp?

Look, you see these guys out running an a904 in beast mode behind hot strokers; you can do that with a 42RH. It IS a a999, with a overdrive bolted to the back of it... Ever look on the Dodge diesel forums and they are running the overdrive section (which are the same on the 46rh version) on diesels with 800ft lb/tq with just adding a few well placed clutch and steel plates?

The only thing is: You can't use the lock-up input shaft, because half of it is hollow, you can press the old non lock-up in there and your fine. The direct drum spring is wound the right way AND they come 5 clutch stock; you can't use the A&A multi-spring, it doesn't fit.

You don't even need a full shift kit.... After 92 it has the better pump 'D' design.

Whatever you choose, get a good converter. This is the route I went and its been great on my 400ft/lb 360. A non-lock 95 with the updated pump design. PTC 4500 stall.

Did it all myself.
