72 Cuda-?392 HEMI

I have a 72 Cuda with no engine (it was a 340). Original 4 speed in place. I can buy a rebuilt 392 now at 404 cu in, and built for the street. Is a new bell housing needed? Will the small block trans stand the torque? I'm new at this, so I don't know what engines mate with what trans. The engine is fairly cheap (I think) for a well built old hemi and all ready to go in and drive, assuming I can bolt parts together.
