When it comes to leaf spring bushings for handling and performance what's the general concensus? Urethane front eye and rear shackle? A mix of urethane and rubber? Has anyone tried Delrin bushings (or are they even available?)

The reason I ask is because I came across this company that caters towards 2nd gen camaros http://www.customworksperformance.net/suspension.html towards the bottom of the page they have an interesting setup when it comes to the leaf springs. They recommend a delrin bushing in the top of the shackle and a rubber on the bottom of the shackle, has anyone tried something like this on their mopars?

Speedway Motors has aluminum eye bushings for certain all out race applications. I haven't seen Delrin but haven't been looking either.

I don't know about Delran but I know urethane squeaks. Aint no way to grease them either.

I use rubber in the front and urethane in the rear. They provide an assembly lube. You could easily make them greaseable.

I have a set here now, to install on a customers 79 Trans Am. I'll let you all know how it goes. Im installing a lot of stuff on his car for road racing. Coil over front suspension, C5 Corvette front brakes with Yellow Stuff pads, rear yellow Stuff pads, Solid body mounts, Etc. Here's a pic of the car. Has a 72 front clip on it. Thats what he wanted. Paid someone stupid money in Colo. to build this new car, but not happy with the way it handles. I'll update you all after the Delrin istall.

We work with Delrin daily. It's chemically resistant, slick, durable, but sucks at impact resistance. In a leaf spring it might be ok, but it could shatter on a hard hit.

Imo, polyurethane is a better choice, and in my car, doesn't squeak. I lubricated my bushings prior to install.

is it the same custom works set? I'll be curious to hear your impressions. thanks

I'm using Delrin for the spring eyes on the sliders. You will have to buy a piece of round and turn them down to the size you need. If you have a lathe its a simple job to do. I didn't find anyone selling them for mopar applications.

It's also temperature sensitive. Low temperatures (under about 40F) it turns even more brittle.

As far as plastics go, the only stuff I'd use after a large number of failed bushing designs is this stuff called Vesconite. It's tough, impact resistant, machinable, is self lubing, doesn't abrade easily, gives a decent amount of friction in a press-fit situation. It's expensive and hard to find, though.

do you run poly top and bottom on the shackles? have you experimented with poly on the front combined with your poly shackles?

Yes. Top and bottom. I didn't mess with the front because I don't own a press to get them in and out.
