Stop in for a cup of coffee

Good morning, Americans!

Today is a big day in Sweden for a couple of reasons.

April 30:th or "Valborgsmässoafton" we celebrate the arrival of spring. It's kind of a bourgeois tradition celebrated mostly in universities nowadays. Part of the tradition is lighting bonfires and singing peppy male choir pieces about spring.

Also, our beloved monarch has his birthday on this day. This year he'll be 70 so there are major celebrations. I don't really care about the royalty, in fact, I'm turning more and more pro-republic.

Anyway, at the university I went to in Gothenburg, they have this major event where the first year students make satirical floats and parade through the city. A lot of fun to be part of and thousands lining the streets.

Today's forecast is horrible, though. Heavy rain, possible thunder and hail. Nasty. Keeping my fingers crossed for the participants, though. And the crowd.
