Well, we ran into some problems with the heads that we had done up at the machine shop... we had gotten our flat pistons all balanced n hung n such, n didn't realize that our 906 heads were set up for rounded pistons, so we traded them to our friend for the 750 Edelbrock carb we wanted, some other parts, and some labor on our build.

So, we ordered the aluminum Stealth heads from 440 source... Figured 50 pounds was good weight savings, and they flow better out of the box than the old heads we had bowl-cut... My dad is going to have the Stealth heads all gone through by our machine shop before installing of course... I feel pretty good about the change actually :)

Well, after some time spent considering different motor platforms, we went back to our original 383 and milled the heads and the intake and to get about 9.3/1 compression, which is fine for now...

The motor is now mostly assembled, here it is so far...

Well, we had some issues with the rear wheels we ordered from wheel vintiques...

The main issue being that the backspacing was not quite enough, so the tires were like 1/8th an inch from the fender lip...

We had a local welder cut the centers out and re-weld them on with an additional 5/8ths an inch backspace... They now fit very well with almost half an inch to the springs on the inside and a bit more than half an inch to the fender lips... Thank the Lord!

We got the old girl all cleaned off of the grime n such in the engine compartment and the exterior... Finally! Not sure why we waited so long to do this part, but she's looking a bit better :color:

Well, we have been having a lot of problems putting the motor in the engine bay...

The slant 6 conversion mounts with the poly-locs from Shumacher is what we are using...

The aluminum Mopar Performance valve cover is touching the heater box, the whole motor is leaning drastically to the passenger side, and the motor is not sitting down in the notch for the oil pump in the k-frame...

Sigh...

So, we have discovered that the Mopar Performance valve covers are too high when using the /6 conversion mounts and poly-locs from Shumacher, so we are going to run stock 60's 383 valve covers and paint them black...

This should give us more adjust-ability and allow us to shim the passenger side once or twice...

We shall see what is going to work (and post it on here of course)...

stuck some stock 60's valve covers on temporarily to add some adjust-ability room...

sigh... What are we even doing right now?

Well, we got the motor mount issue somewhat under control, by using the OE biscuit type motor mounts instead of the Polylocs, and by shimming the passenger side...

Its still a bit off-kilter, but on ward and upward...
Here's the painted valve covers on it...

Looks good!
I converted my Valiant right now to a 383.
I´m using transdapt enginemounts, the cheaper option instead of the expensive schumachers.
Works good as well. H_ad to shim the mounts on both sides. I use HP manifolds. Its tight but it works!

Keep up the nice work and have fun with this car when its ready!
I will ßpost a thread when im done with my work.

PS: With shims under the mounts its not neccessary to grind the hole in the K-Frame:)
And the steering hit the 187 Oilpan in my case. Not much, but i have to dent it a bit.

We got the carb on, put oils, break-in fluids, and brake fluid in, and have begun installing electrical components, then starter, headers etc... My pops put this air cleaner on temporarily due to my indecision :)
(its still dusty in this pic)

We got the headers installed and the clearance to the starter is like 1/32 so I think we might have to add a header gasket on the drivers side or something, but pretty stoked about the chrome headers from shumacher installing with most everything in place :)
