Dana vs 8 3/4
didn't want to hi-jack the other post.....
On the way back from Moser, the other post got me thinking about weight
Both of these are truck rears, narrowed to 53" axle flange to axle flange.
interesting weights
first is a spare 3.55 SG =72 lbs,
next is a 4.56 spool = 56 lbs
housing 22 lbs
housing with axles = 56 1/2 lbs
Now the Dana
4.56, spool, all bearings, Girdle, yoke, axles = 57 lbs
Dana Housing = 53 lbs
Things of interest
original Dana peg leg 3.73 gear = 30 lbs
Moser spool vs Strange = 13 lbs vs 12 lbs
weight of girdle is 2 1/2 lbs
Got the Dana all dialed in
Then noticed that the original Dana in the car, has more cast in bracing than the one going in.
