No, the cheapest fix would be a broken valve spring. What if you pull the head without finishing the diagnosis as I describe and everything looks good? You will not KNOW what the problem is because you didn't finish the diagnosis. Finish the diagnosis as I outlined and you will know exactly what the problem is before you ever remove the first bolt.
