Wifes new(ish) minivan has a clunk when going to D or R, and occasionally on the downshift into 1st when coming to a light. Does it in "Econ" and normal shift mode. Feels sort of like if your U-joint/CV joints were bad and the driveshaft was taking up the slop. Someone mentioned an "underdrive compounder" that was serviceable "in the car" with access panel behind wheel? G. Caravan has 51K on it. Ironic that a rental place would unload it at the end of its factory warranty period? It doesnt bother her but I cant stand it, her 2002 dropped into gear just fine, and my 24 year old Lexus wont even let you feel it when you drop it into gear. WTF?

don't you have a 5yr 100K mile powertrain warranty? get it serviced.

First if you think the trans had any service done to it then bet that the incorrect fluid was used in it. Atf+4 only in the Chrysler trans. Most non dealer places like to use a generic with an additive that they say works just as well. It doesn't.
Also the trans "learns" learns your driving style and adapts shift points so disconnect the battery fo about 20 minutes, reconnect and see if it gets better in the next 100 miles or so.

many folks say Chrysler doesnt fix it, they say thats how it shifts (BS?) . Unfortunantly the Trans PCM is stored in non volatile RAM so a power reset wont clear it from what I read, but if you know better than me, thats a free fix. Ill give it a shot. I thought it would be a simple fix like an accumulator spring. seal or something. considering this is an electronic control, does it even have those things?

Hey pishta. Has the battery been low or disconnected on on van? Find someone with a comparable scanntool to run trans through quick learn process, it may have lost learned settings and maybe only thing needed to fix issue

Thanks, Dealer want $100 for that but I may just pull the plug overnight. See if that does anything.

Dog-bone?
The restraint system that anchors the engine. When it gets soft or wears out, other things like the exhaust system take over it's job. They're not very good at it.
It can be found on the front of the engine or tranny, down low, anchoring it to the core-support.

Good idea. This is a hawaii or NJ van so it has lots of either bright orange rust or Hawaii mud under there. Can't remember where the carfax said it was from. I'll check it out. Lots of chatter about the trans needing a recent new flash to remedy to thunk on the boards.
