Help... Vin #'s dont match

I can see why guys say "Just drive it". On face value there's no reason to be concerned. You have a matching Title & VIN and you imagine the police only care about that. The problem comes in when an MVD inspector or "gearhead" cop like me pops up & for whatever reason starts looking around. He then finds inconsistencies all over the car & can then impound it as a possible stolen vehicle. The car then gets towed off to a lot where it can be stripped or abused & you're screwed. Oh you may get the car back but in what condition?
If it were me, I'd go to your local MVD office, get a "Level3' ( or whatever they call it where you live) inspection & documentation from MVD that your car is good. Yeah it's more bureaucratic BS but it beats getting your car impounded when you're at a car show.
