10 Day Magnum Swap - '65 Dart 270
The stage I cam is the only cam I know of that will work with stock Magnum valve springs and heads. Its a bit larger than the 5.2 cam and about the same as the now extinct MP RT cam . Our EQ stage I heads are equipped with a factory spring but we upgrade the valves to fully polished PEP valves rather than the surface cut ones EQ supplies them with like Jegs and everybody else. We sell them for less and use better parts.
Our stage II cam is an upgrade,
[email protected] .520" lift 110 LSA for carb and 114 for FI although we can do a flash for a 110. The stage II cam requires stiffer valve springs and on STOCK magnum heads you have to trim the guides a hair but a direct bolt on with the EQ's. The Stage II cam is the largest lift we sell as a regrind but also available in billet. We should have some dyno #'s some time this summer for the stage II combo but on a 5.9 it should be 375 HP, possibly more with big TB, flash and injectors, 400 with RPM AG FI and I would think very close to 400 on 110 LSA carbed. Lets just say they are pretty damn snappy and have stump pulling torque. We have other cam grinds that will get into .545" lift 217-220 @ .050 which doesnt sound like much until you consider that its a roller so you dont need to have valve open forever when its that high of lift, not like one of the ancient tech off the shelf grinds that all the big guys sell because it sounds cool. Thats why all the big guys sell split duration cams, designed when exhaust ports were undersized. We designed all our cams with Racer Brown who just happens to think like I do when it comes to cams. I know lots of guys like lumpy idle cams that dont make that much power, "its all about the sound" is what I hear all day long and have passed on several sales opportunities because thats not what we do. To me a lumpy idle low power cam is like a hot looking prude, if you want arm candy that doesnt perform, buy a rolex!
