Stop in for a cup of coffee

Have a similar situation with my father -in-law right now. 68 y/o diagnosed with lung cancer. My wife had a conversation with him and he seems to be doing much better now. The conversation entailed '2 packs a day for 40+ years ,you're already lucky, and no need to be miserable to everybody else, we ALL want to enjoy what's left." family, grandkids ,etc.
