i keep track of barracudas for sale on various web sites and found this recently sold car on ebay. it was listed twice with the first listing only reaching $15k. the second time it did sale but for only $18k.

this seemed like a very good deal to me. the car is a very nice driver and sold with the kelsey-hays recalled wheels. a few years ago those wheels alone were worth almost $1000 apiece. it's cars like this one that make some of the crazy prices you see people asking for their cars seem particularly nutty.

here's what the seller posted about this car:

1969 Barracuda Formula S - 340 A53 Fastback. Green/Tan. Console automatic. Manual steering, Manual drum brakes. Pretty much all stock car, except for flowmaster mufflers. Little too loud for my taste. Factory recall wheels and lug nuts with redline tires. NOM, 68 340 with X heads. Motor, trans and rear rebuilt. 3.23 SG. Questions? Please call 908-442-4314. 6-10pm EST or email. Thanks

High Bid wins this car. I need the room for other projects.

If that car is as clean as it appears, that is one good deal. This may point to the future price trajectory of the jillions of old cars that the baby boomers are now starting to unload. Maybe only the cream of the crop will hold their value well.....hemi darts etc.

It also does't help that auctions like Barrett Jackson and people with more money than seance are severely inflating the prices and values on these and other cars! Making it nearly impossible for the common man to enjoy the hobby anymore. Now some of them are reaping what they sowed when they try to move them on to some other buyer who isn't the sucker they where when they bought it! They're only worth what someone is willing or stupid enough to pay for them!

This is possibly inevitable...and it happens with nearly every kind of collectible in the history of civilization. As those who "get it" move on (or die off) the objects themselves lose value.

On the other hand, these cars represent aesthetic beauty that is pretty universal. They also represent a time in American culture that is fondly remembered, even by those of us who weren't there to experience those days...

So long as there are paved roads that permit human-driven cars and gasoline, these cars will always be worth something.

Count me in the camp of folks who would just about kill for a 2nd gen Barracuda and the thought of these becoming affordable isn't the worst thing in the world.

I'm still in my 30s (barely) so I should have a few more decades of driving ahead of me. I promise to all of you guys that if I do get one, I'll take really good care of it. ;)

Yep, kinda makes you wonder why anyone in their right mind would buy a car spend years of work and lots of money only to hear someone tell you it is worth half what you have in it." Hobby"?????? The only reason cars are "remanufactured" is money. Don't believe me??? Go to any car show or swap meet and explain to the owner/vendor that you have no money but you are a "hobbyist" with a strong desire to build these beauties with no money, and then show your results. One reason there are a few parts cars around is the price of scrap is down. When the price goes back up you will see less parts cars.

My Dart Sport is worth basically nothing...but I don't regret one penny of the thousands of hard earned dollars that I have put into it over the years.

I know for sure that I'm not alone in this sentiment.

Yea I kind of wanted that car bid it to $16,000 that's all the money I have right now. Would 've loved to drive it will I'm working on my Dart.

oh i don't know...we spend a lot of money for a lot of enjoyment, and at the
end of it all we have a car.
...How much return do you get after 5 years of golfing?

An old time hack mechanic who wrote a book about how fixing cars said this.....

".... it is by our care for a thing, rather than our need or desire for it, that we realize its intrinsic worth."

I tend to agree.

Let's say a guy retires to Florida or Tennessee and has a new car for his wife. Does he go but a Kia or new a Dart to occasionally go to the golf course or a cool car like this for the same price?

Absolutely correct! We put a lot of time and effort into these cars and to hear some say how worthless they are is rediculous.

I have to be totally honest- my Dart has been a ray of sunshine in an otherwise abysmal and painful period of my life.

I've had it since I was 17 (I'm 38 now) and it has always represented joy to me. I've needed some of that lately...turns out that a hobby, particularly when it comes in the form of a lovable, simple, honest Chrysler A Body, can be pretty good for the soul.

I'm well aware that it's not a collector's piece, it's not the fastest car around but it's a link to happier times in my life and it's a place to invest time and care...the car gives it back 10x.

I could probably ask 2-3k for it if I sold it...but they'd also have to pry my corpse out from behind the wheel. Wouldn't sell it for $30,000. :D

I know my '69 isn't worth a lot, but it reminds me of a good friend that is up in years now. When he's gone, it will remind me of him. I promised to put his name on the car when I'm racing it!! It's worth a lot more to me than to a collector.

its a labor of love and hate like all the good ones...lol bottom line when shes running right it makes me happy just like 1978 when we first got together

Yeah but that is one nice looking barracuda!!!!!! What do you think guys??? -10-20 tops???

i will NEVER buy a kia, i'd take one for free tho and donate it to charity

Donate it to me Loris 07 Spectra is still going....500, 000 kms. Thats the reason I bought my Kia. Amazingly dependable AND Korean made lol. Daily drivers that are super reliable.

I remember that car from a couple of years ago.
Looking at it on craigslist maybe or trader online.
Pretty sure it wasn't on ebay.
IIRC it was in California and that's the only reason I didn't pursue it.
So it sold on ebay?

Someone didn't get the memo.
1968 Barracuda

that ad is really hilarious.... :0)

i've watched barracuda prices since 2006. in the hundreds of ads during all that time, there was only ONE 67-69 barracuda that approached that price - a B-5 Blue 69 M-Code fastback cuda that was "museum perfect" and was supposed to have been the first M-Code 69 Cuda built. it got sold a couple of times - once for $65k and a second time for $75k. but other than that car, and the other M-Codes out there, NO second gen barracuda will EVER be worth more than $40k. and no, i'm not including "resto-mod" second gen barracudas. those aren't "stock" barracudas.
