Stop in for a cup of coffee

I say they're only as dangerous as the guy on them.. except for all the other idiots on the road. You have to pay attention driving a car, you REALLY have to pay attention on a bike. Everybody's blind spot is a concern, green lights don't necessarily mean it's safe, the other drivers don't see you, and white minivans are death waiting to happen. Just ride like everyone is out to kill you and it's fine. Been riding for 30+ years with very few incidents. Lot of guys get in trouble cuz they think they have the same rights as a car. Cost of being wrong sucks..
I stopped riding in my early 20s. I had to kick a guy's fender to get his attention and keep him from crushing me against a guard rail on the highway when he suddenly swerved into my lane. Shortly after that, I hit a patch of lose gravel that I couldn't see in a turn and slid across the road and barely got it under control at the far side of the opposite lane. If anyone had been coming the other way I'd have been road meat.

About a month later, a riding buddy had a similar thing happen except he clipped the guard rail on the opposite side of the road, flipped the bike and shattered his leg in 17 places. Took a year before he could walk again.

I decided then that bikes aren't for me and sold the one I had. Never rode again.
