Steering coupler troubles

tap it on. what happen was the shaft floats in the coupler so it slipped up the shaft making it seem too short.

That's a possibility, I also have beyond allowable limits (see pic). Max should be 13/16";

I measure approximately 1 1/4". Not sure how to reduce that to the 13/16" max.
