Quickest SBE 318 car?

I wonder if fitment is different because you used a slant six k-frame? I've heard other members having to shim their motors and grind on the manifolds to keep them away from the steering box/shaft.

That could be. I can't easily shim it with the spool mounts though, so grinder it is.

Nice read and a belated congrats on the house and son! Who is 8/9 by now? Whoa! Time he can pass you a wrench I think!

Thanks! The boy's only 2 now, that thread has a lot of dead time in it. (apartment living with no garage) Now that I have my own space, things are actually getting done. :)

That's pretty cool! And people say 318's can't perform. :)
Seems to me a lot of it had to do with chrysler not marketing it as a performance engine, mainly as a daily driver and utility block, so it never got the bells and whistles like ported heads, rollers and such. Kind of a missed opportunity if ya ask me since that's how ford marketed the Boss 302, but hey when you release a bunch of big block performance monsters like the 440 I guess you don't consider a 318 a performance engine :D

I have one in my 91 Dakota, not the most powerful setup on a factory TBI and it needs some work but dam has it been an energizer bunny! We've had a lot of cars through the years, a lot of duds, but mom finally made a win when she helped me get that for my first vehicle. No matter what that thing started and got me everywhere, even with subzero temps and roads iced over 2 inches. It's never left me stranded (save for when my brake line got slashed). That thing still runs no problem, it just keeps going and going

Funny you mention the Ford 302. The Ford boys seem to do quite well with there limited cube engine running 12's. 11's, 10's ....

But a 318? Slightly less bore, more stroke can't do it? Pa-la-leassssse.....
Nothing like getting the shame on you treatment from your own Mopar guys because you didn't spend the money on a 340 block and dump more from there into it.

This is what I keep telling people! If the Ford guys can do it with around 300ci, so can we! :)
