Value of a 340.....

It's a question that get's asked a lot. And really only has one answer:

Depends entirely on the buyer.

It's going to be worth more to a guy looking to date code his H car. Then it is to a guy who just wants to be able to say he has a 340 under the hood. Having to go through them means they really aren't "known" to be good. Who's going to pay several thousand dollars for an engine that might need bearings, or valves, or whatever else? While 340's are rare. Their status is simply because they were hot rod engines back in the day. A stroker 360 these days is very easy and (relatively) cheap to build. Which is why a lot of guys go that route.

All the magic, mystery and power that came with the legendary 340, can easily be had with any small block these days. Making them more valuable to collectors or date code restorers. At least in my view.
