1/8" sounds like a tremendous amount to have to shim a pinion. If you're just swapping in a sure grip and reusing your gears you shouldn't be messing with the pinion height. If it has too much backlash you shim up the side carrier bearings to get it right.

Yea I found out I shimmed up the pinion gear 1/8 and it hit the suregrip carrier.and still not enough carrier bearing adjustment. No choice but to shim up the ring gear. I'm sure I can make a good flat ring gear shim I just have to figure out how thick thanks for the replies Jim
