I got some Sodium Carbonate (washing soda) and made a rough setup to try it, using a bumper as heat sink for the rectifier. It's bubbling nicely and since I'm outside I don't fear the vapors. I think some of my sacrificial anode might have been chrome coated and the one I'm using now is galvanized so there might have been some pretty nasty crap coming out. The tank sure looks awful by now, a little over four hours in.
