The 8 3/4 axle brakes are only 1 3/4" wide, so they need to bent them up so they don't hit the axle flange...
The 8 1/4 axle brakes I believe are 2 1/2" wide like the B & E body brakes so the strut levers can fit without flaring the ends up to keep from hitting the axle flange...
