I have a 360 Mopar in my Duster and I am considering getting a tunnel ram setup for it. The engine currently has a mild cam and is used for street use. I want to keep it that way but I want to add some horsepower too. Any suggestions on a tunnel ram setup and what carbs I should get? Does anyone else have a tunnel ram setup on their 360?

welcome aboard raven

from what I understand they are a PAIN to tune for street use
(not impossible, but tuning carbs is getting to be a lost art)

about the only thing that looks cooler then a tunnel ram is a blower
since your probably gonna cut the hood I take it yours is a 73?

I'm sure more knowledgeable people then me will chime in though

oh, and here is an intake for sale
[FOR SALE] - Offenhauser tunnel ram sb

It is all about the combo! A tunnel ram is a purpose built race piece. It works best with high compression, large cam, headers with free flowing exhaust, big stall converter and tall gears. That being said making it work on the street with a very mild engine is going to be a compromise. It can be done. It can make power but it's going to take a bunch of time and money! I am by no means talking you out of it but keep your expectations reasonable.

I have a Edelbrock street tunnel ram and a pair of 390cfm (i think) Holleys I will be listing in the classifieds this weekend. I had bought it to use on a 416 stoker, but that car is long gone now. PM me if you are interested and I will give you first shot at it.

And here is a good street combo even with a mild cam.

Now if I can remember his screen name, a fella here ran a dual quad set up in a 360. "Very nice!"

He ended up going efi at some point. IIRC, DJV was or was part of his screen name. Try DIVcuda. Jersey boy IIRC.

I'd like to know your combo. The more exacting my the better. Generally speaking a pair of small carbs are best to deal with. The pair of 390's is excellent or a pair of Edelbrock AVS styled 500 cfm units.

Also, a few fellas here do run the tunnel ram dual quad in the street. There combos are not what the tunnel ram was designed to do and built for but they did t have any real complaints.

While I agree that the designed for big cams converters compression etc.... It seems to be flexable enough to run the street.

Tunnel rams make more low-end than single-planes and a bit more overall power too (not my experience just what I've read by the pros). The big downside I see for street driving is the carbs are so far from the engine they will never get any heat so don't try driving when it's below 45°F outside lol. The plenums are usually really big but having the runners pointed straight down instead of out the sides really helps keep fuel from falling out of suspension. That sharp right angle on a conventional intake off the carb base wrecks the fuel flow, also partly why carb spacers can have such a big effect.

Change your oil more often as more fuel will be left in all that plenum when you shut it off

There is a couple things that help with that: a wide band o2 sensor to make sure your not dumping to much fuel in the first place, and I turn off the fuel pump a few seconds before the engine to depressurized the fuel lines. But nothing is foolproof...

But depressurizing the fuel lines won't have an effect IF your needles/seats/and floats are working properly, correct??? You'd have to shut the pump off and run it out of gas to get the fuel out of the plenum. Yes, not running rich is a help. But usually all that plenum beneath each carb and over the valley will trap enough gas that it will be wet.

A friend of mine was forced by Manitoba law to remove his on account of the law says they were too high, and they obstructed his vision. The only way he coulda made 'em lower was to run no air cleaner at all, and you know how that goes.

yes DJVcuda ran the old street tunnel ram with a pair of holley 390's on it. car was very streetable witht hat set up.. took a lot of tuning for him to get it there but it ran great. now he has FAST efi on that same tunnel ram an its frealing awesome...

Just curious, what's the height of your T-ram and carbs?
Any chance of getting it under a flat hood with breathers?
Any pics of your setup?

this was when he first got it all together with spitfire headers.. now it has full length TTI headers and FAST EFI.. lt runs completely different now.. a lot faster from the seat of the pants..
