So ... the B block would fit just as well in a 74. But the RB is taller which puts the exhaust ports higher up too. Maybe that causes more clearance issues?


I suppose it is necessary to add the reinforcement tube you always see when they're gone, right? And then you might as well go coilover?
Yes, This is why ma Mopar installed mostly 383' or B blocks rather than 440's or RB blocks in the A body. Lots of A bodies with 440's, out there, but it is a tighter fit. This is also why guys take a 400 B block and stroke it up to 500ci, It fits better.
