as I re-read the story I think its fake. think about it .....your colon is connected to your stomach but only through tons of feet of intestine .....that stuff is way too fragile and there is no way.
No, what they said was if they couldn't get it out through the rectum, they would have to go in surgically through her "stomach" (abdomen) and she would have a colostomy bag for 6 months (since they would have to cut through the intestines to get to it).

They weren't saying they would go down through the stomach proper to get to the colon which is 26' of small intestine to get through. They were just going to cut through from the outside and go straight in.
