I'd just cut a hole in the radiator support and get one of the short stubbie filters on there, can always add bracing around the filter if your worried about it. Or what about running aluminum tubeing and put a filter behind the bumper that way it's a smaller hole if there's room that is.

This was a huge design fault on my part. I placed the turbo in a location and angle where the inlet is just 2" from the front rad support and right on top of the braces where the radiator is bolted on. It's tough on these early As. No room anywhere to place anything. I'll have to fab up a replacement piece for the rad support with the hole in it.
