Not sure what religion you are talking about, but Jesus clarified Gods intent. He was not an "eye for an eye" type of God. More of a 10 Commandments God, summed up in the first 2. "Do unto others" is as close to it as most of us get.
I think where Christianity gets skewed is in the two paths of mentality.
Legal Mentality
Principles Mentality
Legal mentality is easy. You find what texts coincide with your current problem and apply a liberal dose of scripture interpretations and/or "legalese" to get the desired result.
Principles-based mentality requires one to grasp the the big picture and also hold themselves accountable to the principles outlined in the texts or purpose of laws.
After hearing these two Women's interpretation of law and justice I can assume they are the type to use scripture and written law as means to an end instead of a foundational principle to follow.
