Looks like you are fooling w/ some early GM parts. I would switch to a 85-95 GM "external coil". It has a standard HV terminal. If you also use their 8-pin HEI module, it connects w/ a factory GM cable w/ sealed connectors. Cheap at any junkyard, or buy TrailBeast's kitted set. Also gives the option of commanding spark timing from an engine controller like Holley Commander 950.

The coil he has is a later design of the HEI coils I use, and were usually on GM products like Buick-Olds-Pontiac with that "all in one" bracket system like this.
