Having read only enough to be confused.. Ackerman angle stuff says something like 'outer tie rod ends should be along an imaginary line drawn through the center of the rear axle and ball joints (pivot axis?)'.. This would put rear mounted tie rods 'inside' the ball joints and front mounted tie rod ends 'outside' the ball joints.. I was thinking about my Scout. Tie rod runs in front of the front axle but the outer ends are still inboard of the ball joints. It was this way from the factory. What, if anything, would be gained from
re-engineering the steering linkage to be 'Ackerman compliant'??? The driver's side of the front axle is below and you can see that the tie rod end is 'at best' in line with the ball joint..
